Additionally, there are three levels which a pro football player can achieve during his career. The first level is the draft level and is limited to players that have yet to play their first year. These players are only able to negotiate with the team to which they were drafted.
The next level is when a player becomes a "restricted free agent." These players have been a part of a professional football team for approximately three to five years and have gained limited negotiation privileges with any franchise.
The final level for a pro football player is a person who is an "unrestricted free agent." After five full seasons, a player has unlimited negotiation rights. This level offers seasoned football players the greatest ability to negotiate once a contact has expired.
In the United States, the only way to become a pro football player is through the National Football League. Also known as the NFL, the National Football League consists of 32 teams divided into two groups of 16 that provide entertainment for Americans across the nation.
